Brian performing Teo Torriate with Brian May Band in Germany (x)

“When I’m gone
No need to wonder if I ever think of you
The same moon shines
The same wind blows

For both of us, and time is but a paper moon…
Be not gone”

This song is so underrated and he made me cry, again. Oh Brian.

I know Brian May has listed Eric Clapton as one of his heroes/influences multiple times.

It was on MTV Unplugged in 1992 that Eric Clapton introduced the acoustic version of Layla.

Did Clapton’s rearrangement of Layla inspire Brian May to do the acoustic version of Tie Your Mother Down on MTV Unplugged in 1998?

Because if it did, I have even more reason to love the acoustic version of Layla.

I like the acoustic version of Layla better than the original and I like the acoustic version of Tie Your Mother Down better than the original.

I wish the acoustic Tie Your Mother Down was cut and released as a single. 🥺

The acoustic version of Tie Your Mother Down is everything. Instead of hard rock, you have this blues-infused riff and rhythm guitar.

It reminds me of the This is It film where Michael Jackson’s music director described the stripped down “The Way You Make Me Feel” as having “a little more booty in it.”

The Brian May Band puts “a little more booty” into Tie Your Mother Down. As a result, there’s a new facet to this song about sexual frustration. There’s sexual frustration, but also this sultry, tempting storyline that’s practically foreplay.
