Me trying different guitars at guitar shops for fun and always coming back to the 24 in. scale length neck and triple dotted octave fret markers and the overall sound and aesthetic of the BMG Special.

Too much electric guitar rock for my taste but just a happy reminder that SHANTIES ARE NOT A PASSING PHASE

Um. So, have you heard of the guy playing it before?

Personally, no

Cool! So, Brian May is the lead guitarist of Queen. He’s a major nerd, so he occasionally will hop on to a meme like this, and the electric guitar is his primary instrument.

His other options would have been acoustic guitar - which he’s great at, but doesn’t really have his signature style - or his voice, which he is a bit shy about because he’s spent most of his life playing in bands with world class voices. So electric guitar was inevitable when he decided to try his hand.

Thanks for putting up with the lecture (If you did. I’m a tutor, I can’t turn it off…) And have a great day!

That’s actually pretty cool to learn, thanks!

I love music to absolutely no end and the shanty uprising is a big deal for me. And music itself is like an inherent thing woven deep within my soul.

I wish he chose acoustic guitar instead, but it’s really cool to learn. Thanks for the info! I love info dumps!

Brian May isn’t just a big nerd, he was going to be an astrophysicist! Queen was this beautiful combo of art majors and stem majors. One of the first examples I ever saw that science and art come from the place of passion, wonder and creativity.

He did finally get his PhD in 2007, because his dissertation topic (on “Zodiacal dust” or basically the solar system’s cloud of smaller rocks we’d barely call asteroids) was relevant to exoplanet research. NASA has convinced him to be involved in a bunch of little things since then, usually in stereo imaging, so he’s listed as a scientific collaborator on New Horizontal for this stereo image:

I understand the frustration at seeing something you love bastardized, especially when it appears like someone doing it for quick clout.

But I can’t help it; when I saw “too much electric guitar” underneath Brian May, it reminded me of the IGN review of Pokémon ORAS that said, “too much water.” 🥺
